Gleaners Food Bank is one of the organizations our pantry works with to stock our shelves. In a recent publication of theirs, they report that there is currently a food crisis in Indiana. In 2008, 11,263 people were living in poverty in Hamilton County. This data doesn't even include the last 3 years, which of course has been economically challenging. Hamilton County is known for its wealth, not poverty, however poverty is definitely here. Good Samaritan of Hamilton County is telling us to prepare for more families seeking help. Word has it that people may be relocating to Hamilton County since we provide good services for the needy... a compliment for sure, but a double edge sword if this is true, as we will need to be able to help more and more people.
